Mac OS X Launch Applications for OpenOffice.org

One of the problems that many people have when first starting to use OpenOffice.org is that often it starts in Writer by default and people have trouble working out how to start with Calc or another module of OpenOffice.org. The reason for this is that OpenOffice.org is an application rather than a suite like other office applications which offer separate programs each able to run independently.
This is usually overcome in a number of ways in that Linux and MS Windows create scripts that start OpenOffice.org in a particular module such as Writer, Calc etc. These are presented as launch scripts to allow the user to click on an icon representing Calc or Impress etc and go directly into that type. The other method that will come into play in the very near future is that of OpenOffice.org version 3 launch screen. When you run OOo 3.0 it displays a "mini-desktop" of icons that represent the major modules within OpenOffice.org and you can go directly from here.
There is also another option now, particularly for the Mac OS X platform where the new Aqua v3 beta package is being trialled, but still has some limitations. A number of launch icons has been made available at http://stuporglue.org/openoffice.org-aqua-launchers.php which should offer the same capabilities that are under other platforms. The other nice thing with these lauchers is that they provide some Mac OS X neatness in that they also perform as droplets so you can drag a document onto them and it will open in that particular module. This is something that many Mac users would find very comfortable to use and within the standard finess that Mac offers.
Also available as part of the above package is similar lauchers, but based on command-line scripts rather than icons. These may be useful for other developers or administrators who need to have more power behind the scenes for things such as system sharing, standardised installs etc.
These launchers are currently very much beta same as the main application they connect into (Aqua v3 beta), so please be aware there may be problems, but feel free to download and try them and give feedback to the author so these can be improved over time.
